Mimosa pudica NEW FOR 2010$2.25Native to Brazil, this fun to grow oddity is usually grown as an annual in most zones. Often called Sensitive Plant, numerous fluffy, ball-shaped lilac-pink flowers appear on lacy fern-like foliage. Grown for the curios habit of folding up it's leaves when touched, Mimosas will re-open within minutes, hence the common name Sensitive Plant. Easy to grow from seed, and adaptable to most soils in a sunny position and due to its ability to fix nitrogen from the air it even does well in poor soils. Hardy to zone 9 where they grow to a large 5-6' shrub, these are much more compact when grown as annuals and normally reach an height of 15-18 inches. These also make great potted plants and are easily grown inside as year round houseplants in northern zones. Pkt. 25
