Alstromeria Peruvian Lily
A beautiful cut flower that is attractive to hummingbirds, this hybrid mix offers a brilliant display of color from May to midsummer in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Growing 3-4 feet tall, Peruvian Lilies produce clusters of azalea-like blooms in an amazing array of colors that last well in a vase. Considered a perennial in zones 7-11, Alstromerias have been known to winter over in zone 6 with protection. In colder climates the tuberous roots can be dug after the first light frost and stored in a plastic bag containing dry peat moss. Place the bag in a dark, cool (32-40°F) location.
