Start seeds in early spring in seed-starting trays or small pots in a mix of equal parts sterile potting mix and coarse sand or perlite. Sow the seeds 1/4 inch deep. Place the seed trays or pots in a cold frame and keep the soil moist or place in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. Seeds should germinate in five to six weeks. Plant 12 to 16 in. apart.
